Rainbow

Rainbows always seemed special to me, maybe because of the beautiful colors they create. I can remember enjoying the beauty of rainbows with my Dad at age 3 and I remember drawing rainbows with my 8 pack of crayons at 4. However, it wasn’t until age 5, that I learned about the real “magic” of the rainbow.

While visiting a neighbor lady with my mother, she placed a colorful block and a piece of paper on the table in front of me. When I just starred at it, she slid the block across the paper creating a beautiful rainbow. I can remember thinking “It’s magic!” I began sliding the block on the and made a rainbow of my own. I held it in my hand and started drawing a tree with green and the green became orange, then purple!” I filled the paper with flowers, trees, clouds and animals each one in the variety of beautiful colors, like a rainbow. I realized that day that trees don’t have to be green and skies blue, anything is possible; we just have to be willing to see things differently. Today, creating my artwork allows me revisit that magical place where anything is possible. Looking back, I realize the real “magic” is letting go of the restraints of the real world and enjoying the freedom of imagination.

The vivid colors in this painting provide a subtle reminder of the valuable things we learn in childhood and too often forget. It calls us to take the challenge to see things outside the box of convention, imagine the unlimited possibilities and experience the freedom.

This painting is double-signed, “Cajl” on the front in oil, is hand-signed in charcoal “C.J. Lauterbach” and has the title and date on verso. A Certificate of Authenticity and Artist’s Statement are also included.
